I've been following the case of Darius Lee, and it really hits home how these tragedies affect whole communities, not just the families. I grew up not too far from the Near West Side, and it's upsetting to see how violence can cast such a long shadow over neighborhoods. Young men like Darius should be looking forward to their futures, not becoming statistics in this cycle of violence. I think what saddens me the most is that his death is part of a bigger issue that seems so overwhelming, especially back in 2015, when gun violence in Chicago was on such a terrifying rise. There's a sense of helplessness for those living in these areas because it feels like despite every effort, nothing changes. For those of you who live in Chicago, how do you cope with the constant news of these tragedies? What do you think could make a real difference? My thoughts are with Darius' family and everyone who knew him. They deserve justice and peace.
