I've been reading up on the Alfred Redwine case, and something that’s really been sticking with me is the response from the APD officers after the incident. Despite the conflicting accounts from the witnesses and the distress this has caused the community, it seems there was no immediate accountability or even suspension of those officers involved. I find it deeply concerning that this incident, coupled with the tensions from the James Boyd protest earlier that day, didn’t result in more introspection or immediate action from the police department. It's really hard to fathom how these situations are allowed to escalate to this point. While I understand the pressure that law enforcement is under, it’s critical to have processes in place to prevent these tragic outcomes, especially when dealing with someone who is mentally ill. I can't even imagine how frustrating and painful this must be for Alfred's family and friends who are left without answers. This case really highlights the critical need for reform and better training to prevent further tragedies. My heart goes out to all those affected.
