I’ve been following the developments in the Garfield double homicide, and it’s been really weighing on me. I can’t even imagine what Vanessa’s and Mario’s families are going through right now. It makes you realize how real and terrifying the impacts of domestic violence can be. I was thinking about the close-knit nature of such a small community and how something like this shakes everyone to the core. What puzzles me, though, is how the neighbors might have known about the altercations between Vanessa and Mario for years. Domestic disputes aren’t always kept secret, especially in a small town. Were there any interventions, or did people try to help before it culminated in this tragedy? It’s critical we reflect on these aspects and offer support whenever possible. Hopefully, justice is served and might help bring some form of solace to the grieving families.
