It's like the lawyer on her case is on the guys who killed my sister side , anyone with advice please call me 5753410258
I was looking further into the case and saw a few updates: The biggest development is that the case moved into federal court as United States v. Chavarria / United States v. Romero. Federal prosecutors charged Romero and Chavarria with kidnapping resulting in death under 18 U.S.C. § 1201(a). The Tenth Circuit’s 2025 opinion says the alleged facts included a red Jeep at the Budget Inn in Artesia, Stevi being driven away, her body later found near an oil lease/pump jack, and forensic evidence including a cigarette butt with Chavarria’s DNA, tire impressions matching the Jeep, and shoe impressions consistent with Romero’s shoes. The opinion also states the autopsy found she had been shot 21 times and suffered other severe trauma. That's horrible.
But on June 16, 2025, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit affirmed dismissal of the federal superseding indictment. The reason was technical but important: the indictment alleged the defendants used a “motor vehicle” as an instrumentality of interstate commerce, but the court held that this allegation was not enough by itself to create federal jurisdiction. The court explicitly said that did not mean Romero and Chavarria were “off the hook”; it noted New Mexico had originally charged them with first-degree kidnapping and had dismissed those state charges without prejudice after the federal indictment, meaning the state could still prosecute.
There is also a newer federal development: a later federal case appears as United States v. Romero, Case No. 5:25-cr-03254-MIS, in the U.S. District Court for New Mexico. On February 23, 2026, Judge Margaret Strickland issued an order denying Romero’s motion to dismiss the indictment, which Chavarria had adopted. That suggests prosecutors re-filed or pursued a new indictment after the 2025 appellate dismissal, and that the new indictment survived at least that dismissal challenge. The way the justice system works is very confusing and frustrating. I don't really have advice for you just an update of what I found.

I pray for a speedy resolution for you and your family.
