It's truly difficult to grasp the impact that a single moment of violence has on so many lives. Samnang Oth's passing at such a young age is a profound tragedy, not just because of the senselessness of the act, but also because of what it means for his family, friends, and the community. The fact that Billeoum Phan was just 14 years old at the time of the shooting raises so many questions about the influences and pressures these kids face. It makes me wonder about the environment they're growing up in and what more we can do as a society to provide alternatives to this life. I've read stories about how both boys were well-loved by their families, and it's just so incredibly sad to think about the futures that were cut short that day – not only for Samnang but also for Billeoum, whose life took a dramatically different turn. My heart goes out to both families who undoubtedly continue to struggle with this reality every day.
