I've been following the discussion around Evens Archer's tragic shooting and wanted to touch on something I've been thinking about—community vigilance and the role we can play. It’s truly disheartening that an 18-year-old with his whole life ahead of him was taken so suddenly. All of us in the Dorchester area, and beyond, are affected by such senseless acts of violence. This isn't just a reminder of the harsh realities some neighborhoods face—it's also a call to action for us as community members. We need to be more proactive and collaborative in making our streets safer. Several neighborhood watch programs have made significant impacts in other areas, and I wonder if there’s more we can do here to prevent future losses. Let's remember Evens not just as a statistic, but as a young individual who was part of our community. My heart goes out to his family and friends. They deserve answers and justice. Whatever it takes to keep our communities safe, we owe it to them—and to ourselves—to get involved.
