Reading about Officer George J. Hanlon's murder has been deeply saddening. The courage it must have taken for him to respond to that call in the early hours is undeniable. I can't help but think about how terrifying it must have been for the fishermen who witnessed the burglary and alerted the authorities. They were just average citizens trying to do the right thing, and they ended up playing a part in a truly tragic chain of events. It's a stark reminder of how dangerous it can be to step forward, even when it's the right thing to do. My thoughts are with Officer Hanlon's family and the Oregon City community, who had to grapple with such violence in their midst. It's unnerving to know how quickly a situation can turn deadly and how it impacts everyone involved, from law enforcement to civilians.
