I've been reading up on the Lava Lake murders, and the setting just keeps haunting me. It’s chilling to imagine the isolation those men faced in the depths of winter at Little Lava Lake. Being fur trappers, they were probably well-prepared to endure the cold and harsh conditions, yet something or someone managed to shatter that sense of rugged self-sufficiency.
I can't stop thinking about the hammer found near the empty fox pen. It paints such a horrific picture of what might have gone down that fateful day. The brutal attack, followed by the effort it must have taken to transport the bodies, just boggles my mind. It’s clear that whoever was responsible had such a deep-seated rage or connection with the victims to carry out such an act.
My heart goes out to their families, especially considering how long it likely took for all the details to trickle back to them in those times of limited communication. And for the residents of Bend, it must have cast a long shadow over the community. I wonder, do any descendants of Nickols, Wilson, or Morris still seek justice or answers, or has this case simply become a ghost story passed down through generations?
Hey everyone,
I've been diving deep into the Lava Lake murders and something that's been puzzling me is the detail about the blood-stained claw hammer found in the fox pen. It makes me think there was a confrontation involving those valuable foxes. Could the trappers have stumbled upon someone in the act of stealing them? It's odd that such a specific item, the claw hammer, was left behind, suggesting it was used in whatever went down.
What's even more haunting is imagining the situation escalating to the point where all three men ended up meeting such a violent end. It’s heartbreaking to consider what their last moments might have been like and all the dreams and plans they had for the winter that would never come to be. If anyone has any thoughts or theories on this particular part of the case, I’d love to hear them.
