I've been reading up on the case of the tragic Hermiston farm murders, and something that's sticking with me is the role of the media in cases like these. Back in 1941, the way news was covered must've been so different from the 24/7 cycle we have now. Still, local papers and the community seemed deeply invested in the outcome of John A. Soto's trial. I can't imagine the immense pressure on the families of Cora Tobin, Kenneth Gorsuch, and Marvin Adams as their personal heartbreak became public discourse. It makes me think about how media scrutiny affects both justice and the grieving process. I hope the coverage didn’t add to their suffering during such an overwhelmingly difficult time. Does anyone think the intense media attention might have influenced the trial in any way? It seems like a tough balance between public interest and family privacy.
