Hey everyone,
I stumbled upon an article about the Oregon Museum Tavern shooting from back in 1981, and I can't shake a particular detail about the incident. It's about the brave individual who decided to intervene during the chaos of that tragic night. Imagine having the courage to fight back with just a pool cue against someone with a gun. I've got so much respect for that person, whoever they are. Their selfless act likely prevented further loss of life that night.
Also, it's clear that John W. Cooper and the other victims have left a significant void in their families and communities. It's something we often discuss here – how one person's decision can ripple out to affect so many people. As someone who lives not too far from Salem, this story hits close to home. I really hope the families have been able to find some measure of peace over the years.
Stay safe, everyone. Let's remember to hold our loved ones close.
Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about how John W. Cooper was such a down-to-earth guy with a promising life ahead of him. It's incredibly tough to imagine the pain his loved ones went through, losing him so unexpectedly and violently. He seemed like a hardworking young man with a bright future, being part of his family's business and everything. It's just so senseless to me that a night meant for relaxing and having fun turned into such a nightmare.
Has anyone been to the memorial at Mountain View Cemetery? It must be both comforting and difficult for the families to have a space dedicated to remembering their loved ones. I'm sure the community still feels the impact of that night, and the families must carry it with them every day. If you've visited the memorial, how did it feel being there?
Does anyone here know much about John W. Cooper's family or his background? It's so gut-wrenching to think about how much his family must have struggled after losing him in such a senseless act of violence. John's life was cut tragically short, and it's heartbreaking to think that he never got to continue building his family's tool grinding business or pursue any dreams he might have had. I read that he was a McNary High School graduate—anyone else go to school with him or know what he was like? I feel like knowing more about the person can sometimes make these horrible incidents a little more personal, and remind us all that these aren't just names in an article, but real people with full lives ahead of them. My heart goes out to those who knew and loved John and all the victims.
