I’ve been following the tragic case of Samantha Ann Coffey since it happened, and I can’t shake the feeling of loss for someone who seems to have been a kind and hardworking member of the community. Reading about her job as a food services lead assistant at Woodlawn School just hits home how much she must have meant to the kids and staff there. It’s so devastating to think of the impact her passing has on everyone who knew her, especially the children who relied on her every day. It’s important for us to talk about these issues of domestic violence that continue to surface in our communities. I hope we can use this space to share resources and support so others can find a way out of their situations before it’s too late. If anyone needs it, please reach out to the Portland Women's Crisis Line or similar resources. Samantha’s story shouldn’t be in vain. Let’s keep her memory alive by doing what we can to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening again.

I keep thinking about how this is affecting Samantha’s colleagues and the kids at Woodlawn School. I read that she worked there as a food services lead assistant, so she must have interacted with the students regularly. It's so gut-wrenching to imagine how such a gentle presence in their daily lives was taken away so violently. Schools are communities, and losing someone in such a horrific manner impacts everyone—teachers, staff, students, and parents. I just hope the school is providing the support needed as both the children and adults process this loss. It’s also a stark reminder of how domestic issues can tragically affect even those outside the home. I’m sure her school family will miss her dearly. If anyone has any ideas on how we might be able to support the school community during this time, please share here.
