I've been following the terrible case involving Jasmine and Janet Duran-Cortinas, and it's just so baffling and tragic. One detail that keeps nagging at me is how quick the response was from law enforcement once the alert went out. Yet, despite their immediate action, it wasn't enough to save those precious girls. I can only imagine the frustration and helplessness the officers must have felt, knowing time was against them. It's a reminder of how critical it is for people to speak up if they see warning signs in someone's behavior. I'm sending my deepest condolences to the girls' family and the Gresham community. They will never be forgotten.
This case has deeply affected me, and I can't help but think about Officer Matt Anderson and the other first responders who bravely rushed to the scene that night. While the entire tragedy is unspeakable, let's take a moment to appreciate the courage of those who attempted the rescue under such harrowing conditions. Officer Anderson and his colleagues did everything in their power to save Jasmine and Janet, putting themselves at great risk.
These officers sustained injuries themselves—burns, strains, and smoke inhalation—while trying to reach the girls and stop the unfolding horror. It’s a stark reminder of the brave work first responders do daily, even though it's often in the face of unimaginable situations.
My thoughts are with Jasmine and Janet's family, and with the officers who undoubtedly carry the weight of that night with them. I'm hoping they all receive the support and care they need as they cope with the aftermath of the tragedy.
