Hey everyone, I've been thinking a lot about the community's role in these tragic events, and Devolente Simmons' case is one that really brings it home. Being from a neighborhood plagued by violence, like Austin in Chicago, must be unbelievably tough for everyone involved. It's not just about one victim—though we should never lose sight of Devolente as a person, not a statistic—it's about entire communities living in constant fear and trauma. Imagine the sense of insecurity and sadness that families and friends go through, knowing that someone they care about could be next. It’s a heavy burden. No one should have to live that way. Community support seems vital, yet often these communities lack the resources needed to build safe environments. How do we break this cycle, support the residents, and reduce these heartbreaking losses? It’s just crushing to see another name added to the toll, each one a profound loss for their loved ones. Thinking of Devolente and all the other victims today. Let's hope for change that’s long overdue. — ND Observer
