I’ve been thinking a lot about the community’s response during the aftermath of the Pocahontas County tragedy in 1924. It must have been incredibly difficult for the locals who knew the McCoys and the Tottens. I wonder how the news of Tiny McCoy’s actions and subsequent confession affected their daily lives and interactions. In small communities, neighbors are often more like extended family, so I can only imagine the shock and grief they must have felt. Did this case lead to any lasting changes in how such issues were discussed or handled within the community? It’s a somber reminder of the wide-reaching impact these tragedies have, far beyond just those directly involved. My thoughts are with the friends and families who had to navigate such a painful event.
