Has anyone else been thinking about Sherry Haferbecker's pets? It's such a gut-wrenching thought to know they were innocent victims in this tragedy as well. I can't imagine the fear and confusion they must have felt. Pets are often such silent witnesses to the dynamics within a household, and it breaks my heart to remember that in situations like these, their lives, too, can be brutally impacted. It makes me wonder if this was the first indication of something being seriously wrong in Mitchell and Sherry's relationship. The fact that there were no reports of a struggle or forced entry suggests to me that the household's problems were known only to them until it was too late. I wish there were more resources for people in domestic situations, and for others to recognize the signs when things are going badly. Let's remember all the precious lives lost in this case and hope they are surrounded by peace now. My thoughts go out to Sherry's family and anyone else affected by this senseless act. If anything, maybe increasing awareness can help prevent future tragedies like this one.
