Does anyone else feel immense frustration over the lack of tangible progress in addressing the violence that claimed Eric O'Reilly's life? It's been years since that horrible year in 2016, and while some initiatives were rolled out in response, it’s hard not to feel they were just band-aids over a much bigger wound. The pain experienced by his loved ones is unimaginable, and my thoughts go out to them. We need more than increased police presence; programs that genuinely uplift and support our youth to steer them away from crime seem essential. It’s these community-driven efforts that make a difference, and I wish there were more concrete examples of things actually changing for the better since then. How can we, as a community, ensure that Eric and others like him didn't die in vain? What can we do to help stop this cycle of violence?
