Hi everyone, I've been following the case of Eric Nieves, and I’ve been thinking a lot about the broader context in which his tragic death occurred. 2016 was such a terrible year for Chicago in terms of violence, and it's heartbreaking to think of how many families were affected, just like Eric's. One thing that really strikes me is how despite the increased attention on community policing that year, neighborhoods like the one where Eric was killed still felt the brunt of the chaos. It seems like there’s a deep need for more meaningful engagement from the community and city officials to genuinely tackle these underlying issues like poverty and gang influence. I'm really hoping that conversations like these can eventually spark real change. Sending warmth and peace to Eric's family and all those who continue to fight for safer communities.
