Hey everyone,
I've been reading about Maurice Johnston's case, and something that keeps nagging at me is the sheer randomness and senselessness of his death. It makes me wonder about the impact on his family and friends. I can't imagine how unsettling it must be to have someone so dear taken from you suddenly, with no warning or explanation. The fact that this happened while he was just driving along the interstate is chilling. How does one even begin to cope with such an unexpected loss, especially in a year like 2016 when violence was so rampant in Chicago?
I think about all the people who were driving by that day who may not have even realized what had happened, and of course, the first responders who had to deal with yet another tragic scene. It seems like there's a collective trauma that the city must carry because violence like this doesn't just affect the immediate victims. Is there any group or organization that offers support to families caught in this kind of violence? I really feel for Maurice's loved ones and hope they have some support to lean into.
Hoping for justice and peace,

I’ve been reading about Maurice Johnston’s tragedy, and it’s gut-wrenching to think about how senseless violence can cut a life short so abruptly. He was just driving down the interstate, something many of us do without a second thought, and then this happens. It really makes you wonder about the random nature of these shootings and how no one is really safe from the reach of gun violence in Chicago back in 2016. My heart goes out to his friends and family who are left trying to make sense of such a sudden, brutal loss. The whole situation makes me hope even more for effective measures to prevent these tragedies and create safer communities for everyone.
