It's so hard to process everything that Officer Joseph Shinners' family has gone through since that terrible day in 2019. I can't even begin to imagine the impact this tragedy has had on them, losing a son, husband, and brother in such a senseless act of violence. It's a small relief to know that justice has finally been served with Matt Hoover's sentencing to life without parole. Still, I know the pain and loss these families endure are immeasurable and lifelong. I've read that Officer Shinners was incredibly dedicated to his work with Provo PD, and it makes his death feel even more tragic knowing he was just doing his job and trying to make the community a safer place. He was a hero, and it seems like it was his calling to help others. My thoughts are with his loved ones and fellow officers as they continue to heal from this grievous loss.

Hey everyone, I've been doing some reading on the tragic case of Officer Joseph Shinners, and I can't get over the whole situation in the parking lot. I keep imagining what it must have been like for the other officers on the scene, seeing their friend and colleague in such dire straits. It's gut-wrenching to think about the level of bravery it takes to apprehend someone as dangerous as Matt Hoover. The shooting happening in such a public place as a shopping center really hits me hard. It's a reminder of the risks officers face daily, and just how quickly a routine situation can turn catastrophic. Props to all the officers out there who continue to serve with courage and commitment, even after losing one of their own in such a harrowing way. My heart goes out to Joseph's loved ones and all his fellow officers. I hope they find some solace in knowing that justice was served.
