I’ve been following the tragic case of Michael J. Griffin's murder, and I can't help but think about his family and the pain they must be going through. It's devastating to see another life lost to the gun violence that gripped Chicago in 2016. I read that he was shot on the Fourth of July — a day that's supposed to be about celebration and family, yet turned into a nightmare for his loved ones. This wasn't an isolated incident, and it's disheartening to think about how many families were similarly affected during that summer. With gang conflicts and socio-economic challenges contributing to such widespread violence, the people most impacted are often those just trying to live their everyday lives. I really hope that sharing these stories can lead to meaningful changes and discussions around what needs to be done to address these systemic issues. My heart goes out to Michael's family and all those who have had to endure this senseless violence. May we someday see a safer Chicago where such tragedies are a thing of the past.
