I was just reading about Mecahel Holder's case again, and it got me thinking about the impact of gun violence on the survivors. We often hear statistics and numbers, but behind each one, there are people who live with the physical and emotional scars of these incidents. The two women who were injured alongside Mecahel—my heart truly goes out to them. It's hard to imagine the trauma they must carry, not only from their own injuries but also from witnessing Mecahel lose his life that night. Survivors of such events need so much more support than they often receive. Therapy resources, community support groups, and trauma-informed care can make a difference in their long-term healing journey. I really hope the city has put more resources into this area since 2016, not only for those directly affected but for the community as a whole. Healing from such violence is a shared responsibility. Stay strong, and for those in positions to help, keep doing what you can to uplift those around you.
