I've been following the case of Marquis Calvin Winfrey's tragic shooting on January 18, 2021, in New Haven. It's so devastating to think of his family and friends dealing with this unfathomable loss. I was reading up on the ShotSpotter system that alerted the police to the gunfire on Dixwell Avenue. It's such an important tool for law enforcement, but it makes me wonder—how are cases like this still happening when technology can detect shots almost immediately? It must have been terrifying for the people who called 911. I can't imagine the fear and confusion they must have felt hearing gunshots near their homes. As someone trying to piece together what happened, I keep thinking about the brave individuals who quickly transported Marquis to the hospital. They did everything they could, but sadly, it wasn't enough. This case highlights the critical role community members play in these investigations. I hope anyone with information will step forward—even anonymously—so that Marquis's family can find some justice and peace. It's truly a call to action for all of us to be more engaged in seeking solutions to end such violence.

Feeling really emotional as I think about Marquis Calvin Winfrey and his loved ones. I read that he was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after the shooting. It makes me wonder about the person who drove him and what that journey must have been like for both of them, knowing it might be a race against time. I can't imagine the stress and fear in that moment, trying to do everything possible to save him. My heart goes out to that person, as well as to Marquis's family. Such a devastating loss for everyone involved. I hope investigators get the break they need and justice is served.
