It’s incredibly painful to think about the lives lost during that terrible summer in Chicago, and John Hosey’s story really hits hard. I was reading about the struggles the city faced with illegal firearms being trafficked in from out of state, and it just baffles me how something so damaging could happen despite strong gun laws. It's clear that there's a bigger issue at play, something that legislation alone can’t fix overnight. What really stands out is how communities were stuck in such a tough position, with rampant distrust between them and law enforcement. It feels like this contributes a lot to why progress in reducing violence has been slow. While systemic issues need to be addressed, I think there's also a deep need for healing and rebuilding trust. It's the families, like John's, who bear the brunt of all this, and it's crushing to think about the trauma they must endure. I’m hoping that sharing his story and remembering the victims will inspire more comprehensive efforts to get to the root of these problems. Those left behind deserve justice and a future where this kind of tragedy is less likely. What more do you think can be done to bridge these divides and bring real change?
