I've been following some of these cases from the summer of 2016 in Chicago, and Johnnell Johnson's murder really caught my attention. It's just devastating to think how his life, and so many others, were cut short that year. Each one of these lives lost represents someone who had family, friends, and a community who are left mourning and questioning what could have been. I find myself thinking about how difficult it must be for the investigators who have so many cases to handle with limited resources during such a violent period. They're stuck between wanting to do their best for the victims' families and the sheer volume of work they're facing. No one should have to live in a city where they feel unsafe, and it just makes you wonder how much better things could be if there were more bridges built between law enforcement, community leaders, and residents. The pain and the trauma linger on long after the news cameras leave, and it's a chilling reminder of what unchecked violence can do to a community.
