It's been seven years since Jamel Rollins was taken from this world, and I still can't wrap my head around it. I live not too far from South Shore, and it's hard knowing how much that neighborhood continues to suffer because of gun violence. Jamel was just 17, barely at the start of his life—he had dreams of making it big with his music. I keep thinking about how his story could have been different if there were more resources and support in our community back then. Does anyone else feel like not much has changed since 2016? It breaks my heart to see these young lives lost to the streets when there's so much potential being stolen. It's like our leaders aren't hearing the cries for help. If we don't start fixing things, we'll keep losing bright souls like Jamel. What are some ways we can push for real change in Chicago? I'm really interested to hear others' thoughts on this.
