Hey everyone, I’ve been pondering over the incredible bravery shown by Deputy Sheriff George W. Rogers and his colleague Deputy Ulyss Baldwin during that tragic event in 1925. It must have been such a terrifying confrontation at the convict’s residence, and yet they bravely stood their ground trying to bring those fugitives to justice. I can't help but be struck by the reality that they walked into what must have felt like the lion's den, never knowing it would be their final call of duty. It’s moving to hear how the community came together to mourn their loss, with thousands attending their service. The image of those large mounds of flowers at Greenwood Cemetery speaks volumes about the impact these men had on the people around them. Despite the cloud of tension and fear that must have pervaded the town after their deaths, the sense of solidarity and support for their families remains a powerful testament to their legacy and the community's resilience. If anyone has details on how their families coped afterwards or any tributes that were made in their honor over the years, I’d love to hear it. They surely deserve every remembrance we can give them. Thanks for reading.
