I was reading about the tragic events surrounding Misty Dawn Erwin and the others, and I can't help but wonder about the mental state Clay King Smith must have been in to commit such an atrocity. It's chilling to think that Misty reported him for assault just days before, yet he convinced her to stay. It makes me question what kind of manipulation or hold he had over her. I can’t begin to imagine the fear and betrayal Misty must have felt when things took such a horrific turn. The fact that Smith admitted to choosing who he believed deserved Heaven and Hell is beyond disturbing. I hope that Misty’s family finds solace in the fact that Smith chose not to prolong the trial, sparing them from further agony. It’s devastating that this whole situation ended in such loss and tragedy. Would love to hear others’ thoughts on how we can better support individuals in abusive situations so they don't feel trapped into returning, like Misty might have. This heartbreaking case shows just how crucial it is to have support systems in place. My thoughts are with the families and friends of all the victims.
