I can't stop thinking about the welfare system's role in this tragedy. It's just so upsetting to consider that earlier in the day, someone thought something might be wrong and called in for a welfare check. Was there something that could have been done during that first visit? It's hard not to question how these things slip through the cracks, even when people are making an effort to reach out for help. I feel deeply for Giselle's remaining family who have to grapple with these "what ifs," and I hope they find some peace. It's a powerful reminder of the struggles some face behind closed doors and the importance of community in keeping watch over each other.
