I came across Gerald L. Gordon’s tragic story from November 2016, and it's truly saddening to see yet another young life lost in such a devastating way. Gerald was only 19, just stepping into adulthood with so many possibilities ahead of him. I can't help but think of his family and friends, who must be carrying the heavy burden of this loss every day. What really caught my attention about this case is how Gerald’s murder occurred in the West Pullman neighborhood, an area that has been grappling with violence for so long. It seems like every year, the news is filled with stories of young lives cut short, and neighborhoods like West Pullman bear the brunt of it. I wonder how many more families have to endure this pain before meaningful change happens. It's tough to comprehend how someone can be targeted like that while just standing outside. Was it a case of mistaken identity? Or was there something deeper at play? These are questions that linger and make it all the more heartbreaking. I really hope that community outreach programs and law enforcement efforts can bring some peace to the residents of these neighborhoods. Holding onto hope for safer communities and remembering Gerald and others like him, who deserved so much more than what they got.
