Hi everyone, I've been reflecting a lot on the role that community support plays in preventing tragedies like what happened with Nakina and Austin. It's really gut-wrenching when you think about the situation. From what I've gathered, Nakina was a very private person who kept a lot to herself, which makes me wonder if she'll ever know how many people truly cared for her well-being. Charles Gilmer’s statements about taking threats seriously hit home for me. I think there’s a real challenge in knowing when to intervene as friends, family, or neighbors, especially when someone might be resistant to our help. It's understandable that one might want to respect their loved one's privacy, but this situation shows that silence can have devastating consequences. It's also heartening to see organizations like River Valley Outreach stepping up to bring awareness to domestic violence. The Clothesline Project is such a powerful initiative, and I hope it brings about meaningful conversations and change in our communities. For those of us in similar situations or who know someone who might be, let’s honor Nakina and Austin by being brave enough to start those difficult conversations. We can be more aware, more compassionate, and ultimately, more courageous in standing up against domestic violence. Sending strength and love to the Gilmer-Brown family and all those impacted. ?
