Has anyone else been following the case of Robert Wildoner, the missing mechanic from Death Valley? I was reading about how treacherous the terrain is around the Saline Valley area, and it got me thinking about his skill set. As an experienced outdoorsman and Vietnam vet, Robert must have known a thing or two about survival and handling tough conditions. But the desert is unforgiving, especially for someone trying to fix a vehicle and possibly trek back to safety.
I’m particularly curious about the sandal that was found—does anyone know if it had traces of him heading toward the caves? It seems like such a small clue, yet it might be crucial. For a man who loved the outdoors, it’s just tragic to think he might have been so close to finding shelter but still didn’t make it. Considering how the authorities said the caves are prone to collapsing, I wonder if there’s more to be done in terms of searching those areas, or if they're considered too risky to explore safely?
Anyone else have thoughts on how his mechanic experience might have helped or hindered him in those conditions? It's like piece after piece of puzzle, but so many are still missing.
