I've been thinking a lot about the Deputy Power case from 1914, especially the discovery of that mysterious bullet. I can't even imagine how difficult it must have been for his family and the people of Maricopa to deal with such ambiguity in an already tragic situation. The fact that there was a bullet that didn't come from the assailant's weapon seems to cast a shadow over the whole investigation. It's like it leaves this open question about who else might have had a gun and why. Was there another person involved, or was it just some inexplicable accident?
Back in those days, forensics wasn't anything like it is now, and they were probably working with very limited tools. It makes me wonder if today’s technology could have brought clarity. It's a tough reminder of how dangerous things were for law enforcement back then—deputies had to make life-or-death decisions in seconds, and there were always those unpredictable, chaotic moments. My heart goes out to Deputy Power's family, losing a husband and a father in such a sudden, violent way must have been devastating.
