Hey everyone, I've been reading up on the tragic death of Patrolman William Sterling Ashby, and something that really struck me is the fear that the garage employee, the initial robbery victim, must have lived with. Imagine being in that position—witnessing a murder and being too scared to come forward because of potential threats. That's some serious trauma to carry around. It's understandable why it took him months to identify the shooter, considering the era and lack of support systems back then. Does anyone know if there were any programs or protections for witnesses during that time, or was it just left to one's own devices? It's so tough to think about the justice that might have been delayed or even denied because of these circumstances. If anyone has more details on how witness protection worked in those days, I'd be curious to learn more. It's such a complex and sad case on so many levels. My heart goes out to Ashby's family and all those affected by this tragedy. Take care, everyone.
