Has anyone else come across the peculiar detail about the racehorse? It’s such an odd thing to fixate on that Serna wanted $400 specifically to buy a racehorse. It almost feels like an element from a twisted fiction story rather than real life. Considering his track record of criminal behavior, it makes you wonder what kind of life path led him to think violence was a viable solution for achieving such a goal. My heart goes out to Fairy Thompson for having to endure such an encounter, and to the two young girls who witnessed this act of brutality—no child should have to experience something so horrifying. The way Serna executed this crime truly sends chills down my spine. What do you all think pushed him over the edge to commit such a desperate, senseless act?

I've been following the case of Katherine M. Gohn, and it's just so deeply unsettling to think about what her daughter, Fairy Thompson, and those poor granddaughters went through. I can't imagine the sheer terror those little girls must have felt witnessing such violence. It must have taken incredible courage for them to seek help in such a traumatic moment. My thoughts are with the Thompson family and the Gohn relatives as they navigated this nightmare back in 1947. It's wild how Serna, someone on parole, could act so brazenly in broad daylight. It makes me wonder about the parole system back then and whether there were any warning signs missed. Just thinking about how such a cruel act was driven by the need for money to buy a racehorse adds a disturbing layer to this tragedy. It really puts into perspective the risks that can arise when convicted individuals are reintroduced to society without sufficient oversight or rehabilitation. Sending compassion to everyone who was impacted by the ripple effects of Serna’s actions. I hope sharing these stories helps us collectively seek justice and improve systems to prevent such tragedies in the future.

I came across this case recently and felt compelled to discuss the impact it had on those involved, especially the young witnesses. Fairy Thompson's two daughters were present during part of this horrific series of events. I can't even begin to fathom what it must have been like for them to witness such violence. Growing up with the memory of their mother being shot in front of them must have been incredibly traumatic. I wonder what kind of support, if any, was available to them at the time. It's heartbreaking to think about how these events might have shaped their lives thereafter. Those poor kids were surely never the same after that day. Does anyone know if there were any efforts to provide them with counseling or support in the years following the tragedy? ?️
