I came across some discussions on the impact of campus environments on mental health, and it made me reflect on the University of Arizona tragedy from 2002. It's really troubling to see how Robert Flores seemed to slip through the cracks, despite showing clear signs of distress. I can’t help but think, how did the institution miss these red flags? Were there any processes or resources in place back then to identify and support students who were struggling? I know the university has since stepped up their mental health services and security measures, but I wonder how different things might have been if such resources were more robust at that time. I deeply feel for the families of Robin Rogers, Barbara Monroe, and Cheryl McGaffic. Their loss is unimaginable, and it's even more painful to think that it might have been preventable. This case should be a reminder for all educational institutions to prioritize mental health and ensure they have effective systems to support students before it’s too late. Anyone else think more could have been done back then, or have any insights into how things are handled better today?
