I came across something in the case of Ryan Waller and Heather Quan that truly adds another layer of tragedy to this heartbreaking event. I had no idea that Ryan's family actually filed a lawsuit against the Phoenix Police Department. It breaks my heart to think that they felt compelled to do that because of how badly Ryan's situation was handled. I mean, Ryan was left suffering from those horrific injuries while being treated like a suspect. Can you even imagine what his parents were going through, knowing their son was critically hurt and possibly not getting the immediate help he needed? Even though the lawsuit was dismissed, I hope it raised awareness about how crucial it is for first responders to accurately assess and prioritize medical needs at crime scenes. Ryan might have had a fighting chance if the situation had been handled differently from the get-go. It's just so, so upsetting to think about how things unfolded. I really feel for Ryan's family in all of this. They showed so much resilience fighting for justice and accountability. Has anyone heard if there have been any changes or discussions in police procedure locally because of this case?
