Has anyone else been deeply moved by the stories coming out about Erin West's dedication as a teacher? While so much of the focus has been on trying to understand why such a horrible thing happened or talking about Rubi's incredible talents, I wanted to take a moment to appreciate the lasting impact Erin had on her students and the community. By all accounts, Erin was passionate about her job and truly cared about each of her students' futures. I've read that she often stayed after school to help kids with their studies or just be a listening ear for those who needed it. It’s so touching to see how many lives she touched beyond just the classroom. My heart goes out to her loved ones and her students. She seemed like a remarkable person who left an unmistakable mark on those around her.
I'm deeply affected by what happened at Abundant Life Christian School. The lives of Rubi Patricia Vergara and Erin West were tragically cut short, and it's just devastating. I can't stop thinking about Rubi, especially. A 14-year-old with such a bright future, playing her heart out in her family's worship band and adored by everyone who knew her. I read how her gentle soul touched so many, and that image of her just makes this all the more painful.
What breaks my heart is thinking about her friends and classmates who have to go back to that school and continue their lives without her presence. I can't even begin to imagine how they, along with Rubi's family, are coping with such a monumental loss. And Erin West, devoting her life to teaching, only to have it stolen in such a senseless act. I hope the community continues to rally around their families in this period of unimaginable grief.
As for Natalie, I know there's a lot still unknown about what led to this, but it's hard not to wish there had been signs or opportunities for intervention before things reached this point. This just leaves me with so many questions and a heavy heart for everyone involved.
