Hey everyone,
I just wanted to share something about Keshawn "Booman" Slaughter's case that's been on my mind. I came across an interview with Tracey, Keshawn’s mom, and it really moved me. She talked about Keshawn’s legacy in the neighborhood—how he was always there for the younger kids, not just his own but others too. Apparently, he used to organize little basketball games at the park for them, and you could see how much they looked up to him.
The community’s response has been remarkable, even beyond the yearly picnic. There’s a park bench dedicated to him now, and every time I pass by it, there’s always flowers or notes from people whose lives he touched. It’s so important to see how he’s being remembered not just by his family but by so many in the community.
It brings a mix of emotions, really. It’s comforting to see he made such an impact, yet so painful to think how this violence is robbing communities of people like him. Just wanted to put this out there for those who didn’t know about the community's tributes.
Stay safe, everyone.

Has anyone else been following the details of Keshawn "Booman" Slaughter's case? I was struck by how the family honors his memory through yearly picnics and that life-sized cardboard cutout they use. It's such a beautiful way to remember someone who's left such a big void. You can tell he was deeply loved by how his mother, Tracey, describes him as her "sunshine." It's incredibly touching to see how they're keeping his spirit alive, but it also breaks my heart to think about his kids growing up without him. I wonder if these family gatherings help them process the loss a bit or if it’s just a reminder of everything they’ve lost. How will they manage to keep such a strong sense of community alive in his absence? Keeping the family together seems like such a testament to his impact.
