I came across this case today, and it's absolutely devastating. I can't help but think about Susan H. Carnes and the kind of mother she must have been. To be in her 70s, living in Georgetown, and likely looking forward to enjoying retirement with her husband, Alfred, only to be taken away in such a senseless act of violence is beyond tragic. From what we know, their son, Seth, lived right there in the property’s converted garage. It seems they had kept him close, maybe out of love or care, likely wanting to support him. The idea that a disagreement could become so severe that it led to this is just unfathomable. My thoughts are with their family and friends, who are undoubtedly grappling with immense grief and confusion. The community, too, having known Judge Carnes for so long, must be reeling from this loss. It's just so hard to wrap my head around how something like this can even happen.
