I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact this tragedy has had on the students at both Jane Long and Taylor Ray Elementary Schools. As we discuss this terrible event, I want to remember Alba Marina García as the warm, passionate educator she was. The stories shared by some of her former students paint a picture of someone who was truly dedicated to shaping young minds and making a positive difference in her school community. I wonder how the schools are handling the absence of both their beloved teachers. It seems like such a gap to fill, not just in terms of teaching, but the emotional bond both Alba and Gene had with their students. It's great to hear that the district has arranged for counseling services, and I hope the kids are getting the support they need. It’s just so difficult to comprehend how children as young as third and fourth graders process something like this. I can’t even begin to imagine what their families and friends are going through right now. Alba’s joy for teaching and her love for her students came through in everything she did. Her legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of those whose lives she touched. If anyone else has insight into how schools generally navigate these sorts of losses, or resources that might benefit the children, feel free to share.

I’ve been following the tragic situation involving Alba Marina García and Gene Mark Hudgson-Sjogreen, and it's just so sad to see the impact on their students and colleagues. As an educator myself, I can't imagine the shock and grief that must be rippling through their schools right now. Both were obviously so committed to their students, with Alba being named Staff Member of the Month so recently, and Gene being recognized as Teacher of the Year just a little while ago. It's clear they both left a significant mark on their community, and it's such a devastating loss for everyone involved. My thoughts are particularly with the students who are undoubtedly struggling to understand all of this. I’m glad to hear the district has stepped up to provide counseling services; those kids are going to need all the support they can get to process this. Sending all my love and strength to the families, students, and staff who are navigating this incredibly difficult time.
