I've been thinking a lot about how DeQualin Vaughn's family must be feeling after such a sudden and senseless tragedy. Losing someone so young is immensely difficult, and it's a pain I wouldn't wish on anyone. I read that Vaughn was quite loved in the community, and seeing how he’s being honored speaks volumes about the person he was. It terrifies me to think about how prevalent gun violence has become, turning what should be a normal day into a nightmare. I’m really glad to hear that the authorities acted quickly and worked together to bring Eddie Floyd Hill Jr. into custody. It must bring some comfort to the family knowing the person responsible is facing justice, but it doesn't quite fill the void left behind. I hope that as a community, we continue to push for change and create safer environments for everyone. DeQualin’s life was cut way too short, and we owe it to him and all other victims of violence to strive for more peace and safety in our neighborhoods. If anyone is local to Longview and attends events or vigils in his honor, your presence and support might be what's needed to help those grieving feel a bit more comforted during such a tough time.
