Hey everyone, I'm just feeling really emotional thinking about Maurice A. Wills today. Reading more into his story, what strikes me is how little attention we pay to the ripple effects of these tragedies on families and communities. Maurice was described by people who knew him as having a good heart. It's hard not to wonder how many lives continue to be impacted by his absence. I've read how he was playful and generous, and it's just so devastating how these qualities are now left to memories for those who loved him. We know the South Side has been battling violence for so long, and it's heartbreaking to know that families are continuously pulled into this cycle of grief. I can't help but think, are there more productive ways that community members can be supported in the aftermath? What more can we do to show up for families like Maurice's when all the headlines die down? Keeping his family, and everyone else who knew him, in my thoughts. They deserve some kind of peace.
