Just wanted to share some thoughts on the emotional impact Bishop O'Connell's passing has had on our community. It's been over a year now, and everywhere you look in Hacienda Heights, there's a reminder of his work and spirit. I recently attended one of the memorial masses and was so moved by the stories people shared about his kindness and dedication. His work during the 1992 riots really struck a chord with me. I remember hearing how he would walk unprotected into tense situations, just trying to bring peace and understanding. It's troubling to think how someone so dedicated to spreading love and justice could meet such a violent end. My thoughts are with his family and the community still grappling with this loss. Anyone else have personal experiences with Bishop O'Connell they’d like to share?

Has anyone been following the recent developments about Carlos Medina's mental competence to stand trial in the Bishop O'Connell case? I was reading some articles about it, and it seems like there's a lot of uncertainty about his psychological state. Given the gravity of the crime, it's concerning to think about how mental health might play a role in such a tragic situation. I'm curious about how they determine if someone is competent to stand trial—does anyone have insights on what this process might involve? Also, it's incredibly poignant to think about how Bishop O'Connell, who was such a beacon for peace and justice, might have focused on compassion even in situations involving mental health challenges. His legacy of empathy continues to touch so many lives.
