I recently read about Devante Davis’s case and felt compelled to share my thoughts on the broader community response. The Oakland LGBTQ Community Center’s decision to hold a memorial for Devante is so important and meaningful, especially during such a tragic time. It's incredible to see the community coming together to support Devante’s family and friends. Joe Hawkins's statement about the underreported violence against Black gay men really struck me. It’s heartbreaking to think about how many stories never get told, and situations never see justice due to stigma and homophobia. I'm hoping that with increased awareness and support, cases like Devante's will receive the attention they deserve, and we can push for real change in our society. Sending love to Devante’s family and friends. I hope they find some comfort in knowing that many are standing with them, seeking justice and remembering Devante’s life and the kindness he shared.
