I'm just trying to wrap my head around why people like Chairez, who already have serious criminal backgrounds, are even allowed to be out on bail, especially with a history as grave as attempted murder. It feels like a complete failure on the part of the justice system. I can’t even begin to imagine the pain Jorge Velazquez's family is going through, knowing that their son's life was taken by someone who, by all logic, should have been behind bars. It really makes one question the checks and balances in place to protect communities from repeat offenders. Legal reforms definitely seem necessary to prevent this kind of tragedy from happening in the future. I hope Jorge's family finds some comfort and support during this incredibly difficult time.
