Has anyone else been following the case of Delano Jones? It's just so tragic to hear about yet another life lost on the South Side. From what I understand, Delano was 38 and was shot during some kind of altercation. It's frustrating and sad that despite the drop in overall homicides in 2017, neighborhoods like his are still living with this constant fear and violence. I can't imagine the pain his family is going through right now. It seems like the systemic issues are just so deeply woven into these communities, making it hard to see a way out without significant changes. It makes me think about the role of community and law enforcement relationships. Are there any successful examples of initiatives that have effectively addressed these issues elsewhere that Chicago could look to? My heart goes out to Delano's loved ones. I hope they can find some peace and that his case doesn't get lost in the statistics.
