I've been following the case of Michael Hillard, and it's truly unsettling to think about the lack of safety people face in their own neighborhoods. West Garfield Park has struggled with these issues for so long, and it's clear that the community is in desperate need of more than just fleeting law enforcement interventions. Michael's tragic death underscores how critical it is to address the root causes of violence—like poverty and lack of resources—so that the community can heal and prevent such tragedies from happening again. My heart goes out to his family and friends who are dealing with such an immense loss. This senseless violence must end.
