I just keep thinking about Kavion's friends. They must be going through so much right now. It's not just the immediate family that feels this kind of loss; his friends, especially those in his age group, are likely grappling with a whole mix of emotions. It's such a formative time in their lives, and losing a friend so suddenly and violently is a trauma that can stay with them. I truly hope they have access to counseling or any kind of support they need. Sometimes we focus so much on solving the case or critiquing the system that we forget about the ripple effects this has on everyone connected. How are they supposed to make sense of it all when even the rest of us struggle to understand why these things happen? My heart goes out to all of them. If anyone knows of resources or support groups in Memphis that might be able to help Kavion’s friends, it would be worth sharing here.
