I'm really feeling for Nykye Smith's family and friends as they navigate through this unbearable tragedy. It's hard to fathom how someone could be taken so brutally and so young. I was reading about Daniel Kelly's arrest, and while I'm relieved that someone is being held accountable, it just doesn't take away the senselessness of it all. Seeing the community come together, though, is a reminder that people do care and want to see change. If there's any solace, it's knowing that through unity, there's some strength in these dark times. Keeping Nykye's loved ones in my thoughts.
I've been following the case of Nykye Smith since it happened, and it's truly shocking to see how gun violence has affected yet another young life. What I'm particularly concerned about is the safety in the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh where Daniel Kelly was apprehended. It's such a busy area, filled with students and families, and to think that someone involved in such a violent act was walking among them is unsettling. How do community members work with law enforcement to prevent more tragedies like Nykye's in similar neighborhoods? Sending my thoughts to Nykye's loved ones during this difficult time. ?️
