It's been almost six years since Parrish Clay's tragic death, and I can't help but think about how his story is part of a much larger narrative in Chicago. While the city saw a slight decrease in homicides in 2017, several neighborhoods continued to struggle with gun violence. It's frustrating and deeply saddening to see that despite numerous initiatives for improving public safety, families like Parrish's are left in a cruel cycle of uncertainty and grief. I was going through the Chicago Homicide Map and it's troubling to see so many dots representing lost lives. Each one a story that ended too soon, much like Parrish's. It's hard to imagine the pain and questions his family must face every day. I truly hope that as a community, we can continue pushing for change that addresses the root causes of this violence and helps prevent more families from enduring such loss. Sharing thoughts and respect with Parrish's loved ones and everyone impacted by these senseless tragedies.
